Although I am interested in all aspects of photography, it would be fair to say that Architectural Photography was always where I wanted to specialise. Through my work with RCAHMS, I have been fortunate enough to photograph some of Scotland's most important and iconic buildings and monuments. The variety and range of assignments covered everything from large country houses, humble cottages, churches, theatres, industrial buildings, in fact everything that constituted the country's built heritage.

Interiors

Picture
Probably the most difficult and ultimately most rewarding, part of my work has been photographing interiors. My position with RCAHMS has given me access to buildings, often closed to the general public. An understanding of lighting techniques and how to gain a correct balance between the introduced lighting and the ambient light is essential.

Sometimes it's nice just creating images for your own personal satisfaction. Hopefully others will enjoy them as well. Some of these examples have involved  fairly complex use of software such as Adobe Photoshop.

Photo Manipulation & Restoration

Photoshop is a powerful tool, not only for enhancing, or creating images, but also for retouching photographs. It has become the digital replacement for the "Airbrush". Whether it is simply removing dust or blemishes or repairing damaged photos or even removing objects which could be considered to spoil the composition.
